About darive and its founder
20+ years of data – the main insight? People first.
Bridging laser-focused data strategy, advanced analysis, and human creativity – to build excellent experiences. Data provides the signal. But people and conversations create momentum. That's why darive exists.
Read onThe problem?
Many marketing teams drown in data. Few darive.
Dashboards grow. Decisions slow down. Reports get longer – clarity shortens.
Digital Marketing teams sit on gold. But without the right lens, the signal disappears in noise. Marketing strategies stall. Budgets get wasted defending last quarter instead of shaping the future.
The gap between data analytics and action isn't a technology problem. It's a clarity problem. And it's exactly what data-inspired marketing is designed to solve.

Let's stop collecting dust on your marketing data.
Instead, let's start using it – creatively, intensively – to drive real business value.
Hi, I'm Thomas Gerstmann. Founder of darive.
I'm an analyst by training and discipline. An artist by conviction. A photographer by passion. And the founder of darive. For more than 20 years, I've sat at the intersection of data strategy, user experience, and advanced analysis – working with mid-sized organizations to bridge the gap between what the data says and what the business actually does. As a marketing analytics consultant, my roles don't contradict each other. They complete each other.
Analyst. Innovator. Inspirer. Maker. Sparring Partner. Coach. Optimist.
The problem has never been data. It's been the missing actionable insights. Missing initiatives to act on data – and the creativity to know which signal actually matters.
That's what darive is about.
The reason why.
Why I built darive.
After two decades in digital strategy and analytics, one pattern kept repeating itself: organizations investing heavily in data infrastructure – and almost nothing in the one thing that actually moves results: using that data to make better decisions, faster.
Too many people collect data. They simply install Google Analytics. Then do nothing. Or get lost in technical details. They build dashboards without making them influence real decisions. Very few know how to extract the gold – to find the signal in the noise, to name the next move with confidence, and to ship something that actually changes the business.
One story that stuck with me: A team of my clients, operating with twelve dashboards. But zero strategic direction. None was really used. Decisions were still hit from gut feeling. It's a real story, and it's not unusual.
Most teams don't need more data. They need a clearer lens, a braver hypothesis that relates to core business needs, and a partner supporting them to finally act – not just report. That's the core of data-inspired marketing: not more collection, but smarter action. It's why I built darive. A framework, a rhythm, and a philosophy:
Strategize. Experiment. Build. Cultivate. Repeat.
A bold experiment
Leave everything behind. Go.
In 2024, my family and I made a decision that most people called crazy: we left our conventional German lifestyle and became digital nomads – with two kids right in the middle of their school age. High mountains. Deep valleys. Montenegro. Slovenia. The world as our kids new classroom. It wasn't reckless, but liberating.
Only those willing to risk, can achieve something bigger.
The same principle applies to your data strategy. Bold experiments – properly designed, properly measured – are how organizations break out of the reporting slop and start shipping outcomes. If you're done with playing your data safe – let's talk about how to join forces.
How bold is your data strategy?
Vision & Mission
This is what darive's here to do.
Vision
A world where mid-sized marketing teams lead their business data-driven – with confidence.
Mission
Turn data fog into clarity. Dashboard paralysis into momentum. In 90 days.
darive enables mid-sized marketing teams to surface hidden risks and opportunities – then convert them into prioritized projects and shipped outcomes. Deliver "Return on Invest" – ROI. Through the focused darive 5-Step Loop, 1:1 executive sparring, and 90-day action plans, teams stop drowning in dashboards and start building a lightweight operating rhythm that connects strategy and execution across the full customer journey. Finally deliver marketing analytics consulting that builds up internal team know how inside your org and supports with sparring.
For modern CMOs, darive becomes the empowerment track and sparring partner that transforms marketing from ignored reports into a visible outcome engine – for the whole business. That's what a genuine CMO data advisor looks like in practice.
You don’t neccessarily need a dedicated data team. But what you do need, is clear ownership and strong commitment to protect the rhythm.
Values
The core values that drive every decision.
People over metrics.
Data informs. Humans decide. I've never seen a dashboard create momentum. It's not mainly about analytics tools – but I've seen the right conversation change everything. At darive, the team is always at the center. Less ego. More evidence. Listening, understanding, and zooming in on what actually matters – that's where every engagement starts.
Cooperation over competition.
We're all in the same boat. That's not a tagline – it's a conviction. The best outcomes happen when people build together, not against each other. For CMOs, that means a marketing data expert who genuinely wants your team to win – and who sticks around until the rhythm holds.
Creativity as the ignition.
Data provides the signal. Creativity fires the leap. Mathematical analysis tells you what is happening. Creative thinking tells you what to do next – and gives you the courage to actually do it. That combination – analytical creativity – is the thing that changes everything. It's what separates reports from results.
Optimism as strategy.
Bold experiments beat cautious hesitation – always. Uncertainty isn't a reason to slow down. It's the reason to move forward with a clear rhythm. Faith anchors me here: I have every reason to be optimistic, especially when others hesitate.
Data inspired by arts and creativity
Introducing Thomas' photography arts project "objektiv auf unendlich"
objektivaufunendlich is a long-term art project – and a portrait of society.
I've been a photographer for over 20 years. Not as a hobby, but as an arts project. "objektiv auf unendlich" is german and it means "lens set to infinity". It's an ongoing art and photography project with one purpose: to look at society. Carefully. Without filters.
Through exhibitions and conversations with visitors and viewers, I explore the questions that matter most: Who are we as humanity and society? What defines us? What do we value? What are the core problems? It's a project to reflect. Together. Discuss. See things we didn't expect to see.
This isn't separate from my work as a data strategy consultant for CMOs. It is my work – expressed through a different instrument. Because here's the philosophy at the heart of it: Only those who look closely can truly understand. And only those who truly understand can bring up new solutions.
Look → Understand → Act.
That's objektivaufunendlich. That's darive. The same eye. It uses different instruments.
The best analysts I know don't just read spreadsheets. They observe. They sense patterns before the model surfaces them. They ask uncomfortable questions. They're not afraid to see something unexpected – and act on it. Analytical creativity is a learnable discipline – and artists have been practicing it far longer than data teams have.
Business leaders and analysts have more to learn from artists than most people think. That's the bridge. That's the darive philosophy: look closely. understand deeply. develop new solutions.

How darive works
The 5-step blueprint
darive in its core is not a tool. It's a rhythm being designed to repeat and compound.
Strategize → Experiment → Build → Cultivate → Repeat.
Most data projects fail at step one: they skip marketing strategy and go straight to marketing technology and tools. darive starts differently – by asking what actually matters to your business, your team, and your customers. Then we build a rhythm around that clarity to build upon strategic insights and make smarter decisions.
Every step is designed to be owned by your team. Not dependent on external tools. Not locked behind a platform. A self-reinforcing cycle that gets stronger each time it turns.
The result: a team that stops reporting on the past and starts steering the future.

What clients and colleagues say
"Thomas and I have worked together conceptually on several budgets. I was always impressed by his honest, analytical approach and, above all, his empathy for users and their needs. Unlike so many analysts, he knows how to put figures and human behavior into the right and, above all, verifiable context. I can therefore highly recommend him, especially for complex projects."
– Alexander S. Mai, Digital Transformation Officer, Condor Flugdienst
As heard on: Analytics Club Podcast
"Companies collect too much data – and act too little upon it."
Thomas joined the Analytics Club Podcast to talk about why more data doesn't mean better decisions – and what mid-sized organizations can do differently. A conversation about the gap between collection and action, and how data-inspired marketing finally closes it.

The bigger picture
Fighting hunger – and why I'm committed to it.
I help mid-sized companies reach their goals. But I also have a goal of my own.
Every engagement at darive starts the same way: understanding what you are trying to achieve – and building the clearest possible path to get there. Looking closely. Taking the time to understand. Not rushing to a solution before the problem is properly seen.
The same conviction drives what I do beyond client work.
I believe data and technology – deployed with creativity and courage – have the power to do more than grow pipelines. They can help solve problems that actually matter at scale. Global hunger is one of them. Data can map distribution gaps. New technologies can optimize supply chains. Better decisions – informed, fast, human-centered – can save lives.
Helping to end worldwide hunger is a cause I'm personally committed to. Rooted not in strategy, but in faith – in my Christian conviction that those who have been given much have a responsibility to give back. Not as a PR statement. As a way of living.
If you're working on this – whether through an NGO, a humanitarian initiative, or a technology-driven approach to food security – I'd love to talk. I'm genuinely ready to invest time pro bono. Because I believe we achieve more together, not against each other. For each other.
Data can feed people too. Let's explore that.
Take the Benchmark Check
Best decisions start with looking closely.
That's what darive is built on. And it's where we always start – together.
One thread has run through everything: Before you can act, you have to understand. Before you understand, you have to look – carefully, honestly, without filters.
As a marketing analytics consultant, that's the lens I bring to every engagement. And it's exactly what the free Benchmark Check does for your team: In 8 minutes and 30 questions, it maps exactly where you stand: How well is your data strategy aligned with your business goals? Where are your blind spots? What's blocking momentum? Does your team have an operating rhythm – and is it actually working?
It covers every dimension that matters: strategy, experimentation culture, data quality, team enablement, and how outcomes actually get shipped. Not just what your tools look like. What your system looks like.
This is the starting point every darive founder engagement begins with. No sales pitch. No commitment. Just a clear, honest picture – so you know where to focus next.
Because those who look closely, understand more. And those who understand more, can finally start to darive.
